These are the questions decorators, interior designers and home stagers ask most before working with us. If yours isn't here, ask it directly; there's no such thing as a silly question about where your money goes.
Frequently asked questions
What does Decor.Marketing actually do?
We plan and run marketing for interior decorators, interior designers and home stagers in Canada: portfolio websites, image search, local search and realtor referral programs. We also advise owners on positioning and growth. We don't do any design, staging or installation work ourselves.
How much does it cost?
Growth is $1,999 a month, Elite $3,999 and Enterprise $7,999 on month-to-month terms, or $1,499, $2,999 and $5,999 a month on annual billing. GST/HST is added by province.
Do I have to sign a long contract?
No. Plans run month-to-month with 30 days' notice to cancel. Annual billing is optional and simply lowers the monthly rate.
How long before I see results?
Profile and site fixes can change enquiry quality within weeks, but search visibility usually takes three to six months to build. Agent referral work tends to show over one or two listing seasons.
We hired an agency before and it didn't work. Why would this be different?
Ask what was measured last time. Many agencies report impressions and followers, which say little about paid work. We report calls, texts and emails, the pages behind them, and which turned into clients, and the plan is in writing before we start.
Who owns the website, photos and accounts?
Your domain, website content and the photos you supply belong to you. Ownership of each account is confirmed in your proposal, so you can always take everything with you.
What do the monthly reports show?
Enquiries by channel, the pages people read before contacting you, search visibility for the room types and towns you chose, new reviews, and, for stagers, referrals by agent. Every report comes with a short plain-language summary.
Can you promise I'll rank first on Google?
No, and you should be cautious of anyone who says they can. Rankings depend on competition and on decisions search engines make. We commit to the work and to transparent measurement.
I'm not a registered interior designer. Does that matter?
In some provinces it does. In Ontario, ARIDO says only its registered members may call themselves interior designers, so we'd describe your services with words such as decorator, stylist or design consultant. Check with your provincial association if you're unsure.
Do you work with stagers who rent furniture or own inventory?
Both. The marketing differs a little: inventory owners often promote vacant-home staging and turnaround, while consult-only stagers lean on occupied-home advice. We adapt the agent page and portfolio to your model.
Will my clients' homes be shown online?
Only with their written consent, and without identifying details such as street numbers or family photos. Privacy is a selling point for design clients, and we treat it that way.
Do you work outside British Columbia?
Yes. We work with design and staging businesses in every province and territory, and can prepare French-language content for Quebec clients.
Is the first consultation free?
Yes. The first 30-minute consultation is free for eligible businesses and separate from paid plans, with no obligation afterwards.
Before you hire anyone
The most useful thing you can do before speaking with any marketing firm, including us, is write down where your last ten clients came from. Referrals, agents, Instagram, search, a show home, a neighbour who saw your van. That list tells you more about what to fix than any audit.
Then ask every agency the same three things: what exactly will you measure, who owns what at the end, and what happens if I leave? Our answers are in the questions above and in writing in every proposal. You'll find our plans on the pricing page.
About our services
We offer four services: portfolio websites, image SEO, local search and realtor referral marketing. Most design businesses need two of them first. The services overview has a short table to help you pick.
What we don't do is just as clear. We aren't a design firm or a contractor, so we never decorate, stage, source furniture or install anything. We also don't buy followers, post fake reviews, or promise rankings.
About results and proof
Our published case studies come from our HVAC work, because that's where our documented results are. We present them honestly as results from our HVAC work, with the clients named and linked, and explain which parts carry over to a portfolio-led business. See the results page for details.
If a firm shows you design-industry case studies, it's fair to ask to see the live client sites. Numbers without names are hard to check.
About time and effort on your side
Expect to spend a couple of hours in the first month on interviews and approvals, then roughly an hour a month: sending photos after each reveal, reviewing new pages, and answering a few questions. Stagers add a little time for agent outreach. If you can't find that hour, tell us; some of it can be handled by an assistant.
About location and language
We're based in Vancouver and work across Canada, in person or by video call. Some rules change by province: ARIDO says Ontario reserves the "Interior Designer" title for its registered members, and the OQLF sets out Quebec's requirement that French be clearly predominant in commercial advertising. Each regional page in our areas section covers what matters there.
Questions to ask any agency, including us
A short list worth keeping beside the phone when you speak with marketing firms:
- What exactly will you report each month? Look for enquiries and paid work, not just visits and followers.
- Who owns the domain, website and ad accounts? The answer should be you, in writing.
- What happens if I leave? You should be able to take your site, content and accounts with you.
- Have you worked in my industry? If not, how will you learn it? We're open that our documented results come from our HVAC work.
- What won't you do? A firm that will do anything to grow numbers may do things you'd regret.
If an agency can't answer those clearly, keep looking. Our answers are above, and every one is repeated in your written proposal.
A note for stagers and designers who share clients
Designers and stagers sometimes refer work to each other: a stager meets a seller who wants help with their next home, or a designer has a client who needs to sell first. Those cross-referrals are valuable and easy to lose. Keep a simple record of who sent whom, and say thank you promptly. We can build that tracking into your plan, alongside the realtor referral work for agents.
